Kerrang! List Top 50 Punk Albums

UK punk and metal bible Kerrang! has listed their Top 50 Punk Albums Of All Time.

Like most lists of this nature, it's controversial and ultimately debate fodder more than anything else. The trouble begins at number one with the Sex Pistols' 1977 album 'Never Mind The Bollocks' topping the list. The landmark effort represents the apogee of punk for many, but debate still rages about the authenticity of the band.

The top ten continues with Green Day's 'Dookie' then Dead Kennedys' 'Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables'. Nirvana's grunge launching pad 'Nevermind' comes in fourth, followed by The Offspring, Rancid, Discharge, The Clash, The Damned and Ramones.

The list leans heavily on the late-70s UK punk movement and the 90s US punk revival. Debate has already raged about positioning, with Blink 182's mainstream breakthrough 'Enema Of the State' pipping The Stooges 'Fun House', as well as the "punk" credentials of bands like grind pioneers Napalm Death and ska stars The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

Very welcome additions include Swedish hardcore revolutionaries Refused's seminal 'Shape Of Punk To Come' and Rocket From The Crypt's classic punkabilly set 'Scream Dracula Scream'. Double entries come from Green Day, NOFX, The Stooges and The Clash.
