Neil Young Rolls Out Some Homegrown Chrome In Concert

Neil Young is back on the road in support of the new album 'Chrome Dreams II' and hidden within the setlist may have been the unreleased 'Chrome Dreams' or 'Homegrown' albums from the 70s.

Young played last night at Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon. The tour kicked off on October 18 in Boise, Idaho.

His setlist included the unreleased songs from the 70s 'Sad Movies', 'No One Seems To Know' and 'Love Art Blues'.

Also included in the set were a number of songs that have been released in time, but only on compilation or live albums. He also played 'Love Is A Rose' and 'Winterlong' which both surfaced in the late 70s on the 'Decade' compilation. 'Bad Fog Of Loneliness' was also in the set. The early 70s penned Young composition was officially released earlier this year on the 'Live At Massey Hall, 1971' archive live album.

'Love Art Blues' and 'Love Is A Rose' were certainly recorded for the abandoned 1975 'Homegrown' album.

Only Young really knows the tracklisting for what would have been the 'Homegrown' and 'Chrome Dreams' albums (if they ever got that far). A 1992 bootleg called 'Chrome Dreams' lists songs that went on to be released on his albums from the mid 70s to the late 80s, effectively out-takes from the 'American Stars 'n' Bars' sessions.

Young divided the set into two parts, first the acoustic run that revisited three 'Harvest' songs 'A Man Needs A Maid', 'Harvest' and 'Heart Of Gold' and opened with the 'Harvest Moon' track 'From Hank To Hendrix'.

Young's current touring band includes a hybrid of his career bands. Rick Rosas on bass played with Neil on 'Living With War'. Ralph Molina on drums is from Crazy Horse. Ben Keith has been with Neil as a part of the Stray Gators.
