New York's finest Jewish rap crew, the Beastie Boys, plan to remix 'The Mix-Up' with vocals.'The Mix-Up', released this year, was an all-instrumental garage funk jam. It wasn't exactly the album that Beastie Boys fans have been drooling for, but it was certainly serviceable. Now Adam Yauch aka MCA has told Billboard that they want to throw the tracks on the remix table, and are eyeing off British vocalists to add their voices.
Yauch suggested that guests will include Tamil rap princess M.I.A., tabloid belle Lily Allen and Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker. He quipped, "It'll be interesting to see what they do with the stuff."
The band have also been touring, alternating live performances of 'The Mix-Up' with "rare and b-side"-type sets that actually feature microphones in front of faces. Yauch reports that they have been filming sets and bits and pieces which the band plan to turn into a film which will run the length of the album.
As for plans on the next "real" Beastie Boys album, Yauch is non-committal. "We just kind of go in and mess around, see what happens. There's no plan or anything," he said.
