THE SANDRINGHAM HOTEL - THE WAY WE WERE

HOW YOU CAN HELP SAVE THE SANDO

By Sally Bailey
Fri, 03 Aug 2012 14:58:12 +1000

As reported a few weeks ago, the embattled live music venue The Sandringham Hotel in King St Newtown NSW may be forced to close it's doors due to debt issues.

However The Sando won't go down without a fight and their are a few ways you can add your voice in support of the iconic venue. Recently a petition has been created SAVE OUR SANDO - SAVE OUR SCENE whereby you can sign a petition in support of The Sando and donate cash if so willing to keep the petition site open. The petition page raises some interesting questions and facts such as "What about the community and music significance of the Sando and the fact that 120 bands (450 musicians) perform in the hotel each month. The Sando has played host to the arts, theatre and music since its birth in the 1860's. The hotel
was also acknowledged in 2012 as the oldest business in Marrickville City Council.... In fact it was established before Marrickville City Council was formed...." Click here to sign the petition.

Secondly there will be a Save Our Sando Rally at Sydney Park, Sunday August 26 12pm. There's not much information about said rally at this stage, hopefully more info will come to light prior to August 26th.

At the end of the day it will be sad to see the Sando go (if it does). More so for me because of the memories I have of the glory days (my glory days) back in the early to mid 90's playing and hanging out in the Sando like it was our own personal loungeroom with beer on tap. Having said that I have to admit that since moving to Melbourne in the late 90's I have barely set foot in the joint for nigh on 15 years and walk past it without looking in when in town, just because I can't bear not to see The Sando of the old days inside. Whatever happens I know The Sando will occupy a warm place inside the hearts of the thousands of punters and musicians that ever spent every weeknight/ weekend there for any period of time. Though it may close it's doors, it will live on in the memories of those that loved the place. As for live music, keep supporting it any way you are able.

Framed by soft lights and lush guitar tone, the video for 'Voodoo Hoodoo' is an exercise in colour and enthralling visuals, showing the boys doing their thing - rockin' out with a heap of intrigue. Coupled with close-ups of sexy instruments, the video is an enticing, dreamy tribute to the art of performance.
