ONE OF THE GREAT MYSTERIES OF OUR TIME

One of the most perplexing and mysterious questions of our time is "Why haven't KISS been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?" Not only that, Motorhead haven't had a look in either.....

You would think  pre-requisites for nomination and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, would be that you a) play Rock n Roll and b) are one of the most long standing and finest purveyors of the genre in history. Both  KISS and Motorhead have those runs on the board..however inductions for these legendary rock n roll bands have not been forthcoming. Having said that, KISS have been nominated but failed to make the final cut in 2009. Why is this so?

As per The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame FAQ page, the response to the question, "What is the Process for Induction" is as follows;

Leaders in the music industry joined together in 1983 to establish the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. One of the Foundation’s many functions is to recognize the contributions of those who have had a significant impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of rock and roll by inducting them into the Hall of Fame. (That would be KISS and MOTORHEAD)

There are four main categories of inductees: Performers, Non-Performers, Early Influences and, as of the year 2000, Side-men. The Foundation also occasionally bestows an award for Lifetime Achievement. (That would be KISS and MOTORHEAD)

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contribution to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. ( That would be KISS and Motorhead. KISS released their self titled debut album KISS in 1974 and Motorhead released their self titled debut album in 1978. Tick, Tick.)

The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 1,000 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes, and more than 50 percent of the vote, are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year. (Who are the rock experts that consider Madonna to be rock & roll?)

As we can see there really is no good reason that two of the greatest rock n roll bands on the planet have not been inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The question is, who are the 1,000 international "rock experts " that vote for the nominations?

Anyhoo, we all know what KISS think about it. Paul Stanley had this to say, "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has reached a point where they're really scrounging and scratching to find someone left that they consider viable."  Gene Simmons has added that "It is a joke." And when Lemmy Kilmister was asked if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were to offer to induct him now, would he accept the honour? Lemmy replied "What honour?"

What is more rock & roll than not giving a F**CK ? Nothing.
