HIT AND RUN

GIRLSCHOOL RELEASE HIT AND RUN REVISITED

By Sally Bailey
Fri, 27 Jan 2012 12:31:27 +1100

Girlschool’s second album, Hit And Run, out in 1981, was a classic. To this day, a number of tracks off Hit And Run feature on the live setlist of the band which consists of the original line-up – with the exception of the late Kelly Johnson, who sadly passed away in 2007 (she was replaced by guitarist Jackie Chambers in 2000). Girlschool released the re-recorded version of Hit And Run in 2011, complemented by two awesome bonus tracks.

The original recording sessions for "Hit and Run" took place in what has been described by singer/guitarist Kim McAuliffe as a shack where you had to kick the equipment to make it work.

The gals have gone back into the studio (not the same one) and rerecorded "Hit and Run" on new equipment and made subtle changes to the original arrangements. It will be up to fans to either love or hate the rerecorded album. One of the bonus tracks on the album is a version of "Hit and Run" with Doro (German version of Pat Benatar). They could have roped in their old pal Lemmy (Motorhead). Afterall their collaboration as Headgirl on the St. Valentine's Day Massacre EP (1981) reached #5 in the UK Singles Chart and became the biggest hit either band ever had in the charts at that time.

Here is the track listing for Hit and Run Revisited, compare the orginal and new versions below.

 C'Mon Let's Go (K. Mcauliffe, K. Johnson) – 3:372.

The Hunter (K. Mcauliffe, K. Johnson) – 3:153.
