Wrestling legend Macho Man Randy Savage has died from injuries sustained in a car crash.
The 58-year-old wrestler had a head on crash into a tree while driving down Park Poulevard in Seminole, Florida yesterday, May 20, 2011, with his wife of one year Lynn Payne in the passenger seat. Payne was admitted to hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Savage began his career in 1985 with the World Wrestling Federation. He stayed there until 1994 when he switched to World Championship Wrestling. From 1999 to 2004 he remained out of the ring before returning for a season at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
During his career, Savage was world champion ten times, twice with the WWF, four times in the WCW, three times with the ICW and once from the USWA.
The other huge name in wrestling in that era was Hulk Hogan. Speaking on his Twitter account, he said: “I'm completely devastated, after over 10 years of not talking with Randy, we've finally started to talk and communicate.
“He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he's happy and in a better place and we miss him.
“We miss him a lot. I feel horrible about the ten years of having no communication. This was a tough one.
“I just pray that Randy's happy and in a better place and we miss him.”
