Icehouse Celebrates Thirtieth Anniversary Of Flowers

Icehouse and Iva Davies offer an hugely expanded deluxe edition to celebrate their breakthrough debut.

In 1980 the band, called Flowers at the time, released their debut Icehouse (now retconned to be Flowers by Icehouse when they changed their name in 1981).

It went quadruple platinum in both Australia and New Zealand, the biggest debut in Australian history until Savage Garden's 1997 self-titled album.

Flowers/Icehouse was driven by massive singles ‘We Can Get Together’, ‘Can’t Help Myself’, ‘Walls’ and the self-titled and now eponymous track.

Now, thirty years on, the Iva Davies-led band announce the 30-year anniversary edition of this blockbuster debut.

It has been completely remastered with three bonus tracks, and comes accompanied by a 75-minute, 19-track disc of live versions recorded for radio in 1980 and 1981. The live disc also has covers of Iggy Pop, The Easybeats, John Lennon and Ultravox.

In addition to this, it will also come with a DVD of super rare footage of the band from early on in their career, including an interview, Countdown appearances, photos, memorabilia, live footage and extensive new liner notes from Davies.

Davies said in a press release “As can be imagined the Icehouse catalogue is very important to me and all those who took part in its creation. George Ash and Universal showed that they understand the excitement around new models of getting music to fans plus demonstrated a rare combination of being a big company which is also able to take a personal approach.”

The three-disc set will be released Friday 20 May.
