AC/DC Back In Black Turns 30

AC/DC `Back In Black` is about to turn 30.

The classic album that introduced new singer Brian Johnson to the world just five months after the death of the band's second singer Bon Scott will be 30-years old on Sunday, July 25.

AC/DC had started work on writing the songs for their next album prior to Bon's death. Bon's last record with the band was 'Highway To Hell'. The band started work on 'Back In Black' just two days after Bon's death. At the time Malcolm Young explained "I thought, 'Well, fuck this, I'm not gonna sit around mopin' all fucking year.' So I just ran Angus and said, 'Do you wanna come back and rehearse?'"

The first single from 'Back In Back' was 'You Should Me All Night Long'. It was also the first song Johnson wrote with his new band. Brian came up with the line "She was a fast machine, she kept her motor clean". Yes, he is a car fanatic.

'Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution' was the second single.

'Back In Black' is not only the biggest selling AC/DC albums but it is also one of the biggest selling albums of all-time. It is estimated to have sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. In America alone it has done over 22 million.

30th birthday celebrations are expected to take place around the world that weekend. In Melbourne, Cherry Bar at AC/DC Lane will kick off with a 12 hour tribute to the album from 5pm on July 24th including a performance from tribute band Back In Black, playing two sets from 9pm.
