“EIGHT MILES HIGH” THE INAUGURAL MELBOURNE EVENT featuring...

THE DEMON PARADE SISTER JANE LOWTIDE BURIED FEATHER FLYYING COLOURS DJS: ANDREW COATES (BLACK CAB) & WES HOLLAND (SAND PEBBBLES) Alien Lane Management are delighted to present the inaugural Melbourne instalment of the Eight Miles High mini-festival, a celebration of psychedelic, 60’s, surf, shoegaze and garage pop. Once again they've carefully selected bands that we love, that are doing something great… The Demon Parade blend the heady sounds of 70’s psychedelia with the (slightly) more contemporary drive of UK bands such as The Verve and The Stone Roses. Loud, hypnotic and psychotic, the band combines powerful guitars with melodic harmonies mixed well forward, to create a summery vibe that marks them as a band of immense promise. Sydney’s contribution to the show is Sister Jane. Blending sixties blues and seventies psychedelic rock to produce a distinctive sound, their debut album Mercy showcases the band’s undoubted songwriting talents. The first single, Be Kind, swaggers like early Buffalo Springfield, country rock’n’roll with a British flavour. Think The Doors meets the Pixies… then prepare for a good time. Lowtide bring all of the good parts of shoegaze with slight grunge undertones. Minimalist drums, crystalline and ethereal female vocals, shimmering guitars – there’s a fuzzy perfection in their unhurried pop songs that draws you in and keeps you hooked. Perfect, and we love them for it. Among Melbourne’s current crop of psych bands, Buried Feather have carved out a name for themselves. With their dark, hypnotic groove drawing comparisons to both the drone’n’roll of the Black Angels and the wah-heavy sludge of Dead Meadow, the band has a fantastic new single out now. Keep an eye out. Rounding out the bill are Flyying Colours, whose low-fi, reverbed vocals recall early Flying Nun bands with a slightly noisier, splashy shoegaze grind. They might be new, but they’re good. Special guest DJs include Andrew Coates (Black Cab) and Wes Holland (Sand Pebbles) spinning tunes for your amusement. Get there early. Tickets are on sale now from Moshtix, and are strictly limited for $20. DOORS 7.30PM, PRESALES $20 ON SALE NOW FROM MOSHTIX
